<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new alkali protease which is used for detergents, has a larger mol. wt. and a lower amino acid sequence homology than those of conventional alkali protease for detergents or than those of conventional subtilisin, and to provide a gene encoding the same. <P>SOLUTION: This protein is (a) a protein originated from a Bacillus sp. and comprising a specific amino acid sequence or (b) a protein comprising (a) the protein whose one or more amino acids are deleted, replaced or added and having an alkali protease activity. The protein is a protein comprising an amino acid sequence having the homology of ≥80% based on the amino acid sequence of (a) the protein and an alkali protease activity. A gene encodes the protein.
