PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recoding device for surely protecting the copyright of digital information.

SOLUTION: The digital information recording/reproducing device is so constituted that key information for enciphering and deciphering is generated from the ID (identification) number of an IC card 27 and the machine ID stored in a memory 25 of a device main body, and the machine ID of of the memory 25 is stored into the IC card 27, and further, the ID of the IC card 27 is stored into the memory 25 to carry out mutual identification processing by mutually comparing the ID with the ID stored on the other side. When the mutual identification is not established, it is constituted so that the generation of key information is prevented as an unauthorized use.
