<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the volume of sludge, capable of effectively reducing the volume of sludge, and an apparatus therefor. <P>SOLUTION: After sewage or industrial wastewater is treated in a biological treatment tank 2, sludge is separated in a sedimentation and separation tank 3 and introduced into a prestage reactor 13 to finely disperse and micronize floc-like excess sludge by a sludge jet with a low pressure of 1 MPa or below. Bacteria cells are damaged and finely crushed by a sludge cavitation jet with a pressure of 3 MPa or more in a poststage reactor 19. When the treated sludge is returned to the biological treatment tank 2, the micronized or solubilized sludge is actively eaten by bacteria in the biological treatment tank and, finally, excess sludge is reduced in volume. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
