PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having high light resistance, high resistance to oxidative gases such as ozone and NOx (nitrogen oxides), excellent mechanical properties in use such as plate wear, wear and scuffing resistances and lubricity, and also excellent electrical properties. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor having a photosensitive layer containing at least a charge generating material, a charge transport material and a binder resin on a conductive substrate, is characterised in that a polyarylate resin is selected as the binder resin, and further, the photosensitive layer and/or a layer situated on the outside thereof contains a light absorbing compound having compatibility with the layer in which the compound is blended, wherein the absorbance of a solution of the compound ( absorbance as a tetrahydrofuran solution) in a region of 420 to 520 nm has at least one maximum value.
