PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter element which does not cause pollution when discarded, can be produced easily, is improved in terms of a pressure loss, and can reduce production costs and a method for producing the filter element. SOLUTION: In the filter element and the method for producing the filter element, the fine powder of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene which is 3-11×10<SP>6</SP>in average molecular weight, 0.15-0.29 in bulk density, the aggregate of primary particles, and shaped to have voids of 1-5μm in a part where the primary particles are connected is packed in the void holes of the surface a filter element parent of communicating-porous molded body heating or sintering from synthetic resin powder, a nonwoven fabric, or felt.
