PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic switch 1 capable of reducing impact sound between a plunger 4 and a stopper member 5 when the plunger 4 is pushed back by reaction of a spring 12, and allowing the plunger 4 to smoothly move at the time of energizing to an exciting coil 2. SOLUTION: An elastic member 6 is pressed into a cavity part 4a of the plunger 4 and assembled to the plunger 4 with the state that part of the member protrudes to a stopper surface 5a side from an end face 4b opposite to the core side of the plunger 4. The elastic member 6 is formed such that the area of an end face opposite to the core side abutting against a stopper surface 5a when the plunger 4 is pressed back to the direction opposite to the core is smaller than the area of an end face 4b opposite to the core side of the plunger 4. With such a structure, the area where the elastic member 6 abuts against the stopper surface 5a becomes small and when the plunger 4 is sucked, the elastic member is not easily released from the stopper surface 5a and can smoothly move.
