PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which has good heating efficiency and can prevent image quality from becoming worse. SOLUTION: A pressure belt 3 extended among support rollers 6 to 8 is brought into press contact with a fixing roller 2 to form a fixation nip. An auxiliary pressure roller 9 provided in a loop of the pressure belt 3 has a heater 10 inside. This heater 10 is made to heat up (under temperature control) according to the output of a temperature detecting means 5 provided to the fixing roller 2. At warming-up time and paper feed time, the heater 10 raises the temperature of the pressure belt 3 through the auxiliary pressure roller 9 to prevent heat from moving from the fixing roller 2 to the pressure application side, thereby preventing the temperature of the fixing roller 2 from falling.
