PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for thawing a food by which the thawing of many objects to be thawed is carried out uniformly in a short thawing time by enabling highly humid air to be brought into contact with the surfaces of the many objects to be thawed simultaneously and uniformly without allowing condensed water of steam to stay on the surfaces; and to provide an apparatus for thawing the food. SOLUTION: The method for thawing the food comprises arranging the objects to be thawed by vertically standing them in parallel based on the flowing direction of the highly moist air so that the highly humid air may flow along the sides of two surfaces having larger surface areas, and bringing the highly humid air into contact with the many objects to be thawed in parallel by flowing the highly humid air at a prescribed speed, when thawing the objects to be thawed by bringing the highly humid air kept at a prescribed thawing temperature into contact with the objects to be thawed in a freezing chamber.
