PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive substrate for culturing an organism, composed of a ceramic porous body, hardly providing untoward action to the organism, having through holes for flowing culture liquid or plasma to enable oxygen, nutrient and the like to be prevailed over the whole, and facilitating the production; and to provide a method for producing the substrate. SOLUTION: The substrate for culturing the organism has the ceramic porous body 3 having numerous pores 2, and the through holes 4 penetrating the ceramic porous body 3 from one terminal to the other terminal, and having the nearly same inner diameter.
