The manufacturing method has each 2 panels (1,2) of the folding rear wall brought together so that their broad edges (3,4) are aligned, with application of a flexible elastic material band (6) across their aligned edges for forming a flexure hinge along a linear fold line between the panels, allowing the latter to pivot through 180 degrees relative to one another. The band can be notched to facilitate folding by a cutting tool (9). An Independent claim for a machine for manufacturing a folding rear wall for a furniture item is also included.
