<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bulb type EL lamp using an EL device as a light emitting body, having high vibration resistance and high impact resistance, and capable of extracting light in all the directions perpendicular to the curved surface of the bulb. <P>SOLUTION: The bulb type EL lamp comprises a translucent glass bulb 1, a light emitting body sealed in the bulb 1, a stem 2 sealed to the glass bulb 1 and having a built-in lighting circuit 9 for supplying power to the light emitting body, and a base 4 for mounting the bulb 1 to an outside socket and for receiving power from the socket to supply to the light emitting body through the lighting circuit 9 of the stem 2. The organic EL device 3 comprising a translucent electrode 6 formed on the inside surface of the bulb 1, an organic EL light emitting layer 7 formed on the surface of the translucent electrode 6, and a metal electrode 8 formed on the surface of the organic EL light emitting layer 7, is used as the light emitting body. Since the organic EL device 3 uses a glass bulb as the base body, it is strong against vibration and impact.
