PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a partially hydrophobic metal oxide, especially a partially hydrophobic silicic acid. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the partially hydrophobic metal oxide, a metal oxide is silanized with an organosilane expressed by Formula (I):(R1nSiX4-n) or a mixture comprising the organosilanes, or with organosiloxane composed of units expressed by Formula (II): (R13SiO1/2) and/or (R12SiO2/2) and/or (R1SiO3/2). In the silanization, I and II can be used independently in a total quantity of 0.015-0.15 mmol/g per metal oxide surface area to which I or II is used with the BET surface area of 100 m2/g (measured with the BET method DIN66131 and 66132), or an arbitrary mixture can be used in the same.
