PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small, operationally reliable, and cheap operating lever device for an automatic transmission having a simple structure capable of reducing the number of the parts, ensuring moderation during the automatic transmission operation, and regulating the position of an interlocking member during the manual transmission operation. SOLUTION: A moderation mechanism comprises a plurality of recessed parts formed on an unmovable member for covering the upper side of an interlocking member for adapting to respective shift positions and an engaging piece fixed to the interlocking member through a plate spring for engaging with the recessed parts. A shift lever is provided with an arm part extending beneath the engaging piece. The arm part is provided with a movement regulation member for regulating the downward movement of the engaging piece by coming close to the lower side of the engaging piece when the shift lever is in a shift path for the manual transmission.
