PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal composition which is a nematic liquid crystal composition for reflection type or translucent type AM (active matrix)-LCD, keeps high voltage retention ratio, a low threshold value voltage and a wide temperature range of a nematic phase even after the lapse of a long period of time. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises at least one compound of a compound represented by formula (1-1) and a compound represented by formula (1-2) as a first component, at least one compound of a compound represented by formula (2-1) and a compound represented by formula (2-2) as a second component, at least one compound of compounds represented by formula (3) as a third component and at least one compound of compounds represented by formula (4) as a fourth component (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each an alkyl; R<SP>2</SP>is an alkyl or an alkenyl; R<SB>3</SB>is an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkoxy or CF<SB>3</SB>; X<SP>1</SP>is H or fluorine; Y<SP>1</SP>is fluorine, OCF<SB>2</SB>H or OCF<SB>3</SB>; Z<SP>1</SP>and Z<SP>2</SP>are each C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>4</SB>or a single bond; n is 0 or 1).
