PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy energy absorption member for a vehicle body with a tapered shape of a barrel portion and a joining flange or the like integrated therewith without degrading the energy absorption performance. SOLUTION: The energy absorption member 1a to absorb the load energy which is formed of an aluminum alloy hollow member 3, joined with a vehicle body member so that the axial direction of the hollow member 3 is collapsed and deformed to absorb the load energy in the axial direction of the hollow member 3 when the load F1 is added. The energy absorption member has a tapered shape in which the outside diameter of the hollow member 3 becomes larger toward the backward side of the axial direction to the load F1, and the tapered shape is formed by the electromagnetic expansion of the hollow member 3.
