Assembly or robot for loading/unloading Petri dishes, at a magazine, has a slide with a dish support to take the lowest dish from the side and be returned through a magazine base opening, is new. The assembly or robot (11) is for charging and emptying a magazine (16,17) with Petri dishes (12), where each dish has a lid (12d). The lowest dish is taken from a first magazine at the side, where the lower section of the dish is grasped at least at the base. After use, the dish is inserted from below through an open magazine base of the first or other magazine. A slide (52) has at least one support (54) to hold a dish. The magazine base opening has a clear width only slightly larger than the dish support diameter and the supported dish. A side opening (27) is at least at the level of the lowest dish, with height dimensions in an axial direction which are greater than the combined height of the dish and the support.
