PURPOSE: A photomagnetic disk is provided to cut off a coupled state of a recording layer and a reproduction layer, and to transmit information recorded on the recording layer to the reproduction layer through a narrow area of a mask layer, then to expand a reproduction signal on the reproduction layer, thereby recording/reproducing a recording signal having a short mark at high density. CONSTITUTION: A mask layer(53) is formed between a reproduction layer(52) and a recording layer(54). The mask layer(53) becomes a ferromagnetic substance with vertical magnetic anisotropy at room temperature, and becomes a ferromagnetic substance with horizontal magnetic anisotropy in a part where temperature is high. The mask layer(53) is made of a rare earth-transition alloy formed with the composition ratio of rare earth elements is 15% to 23% by an atomic ratio and the composition ratio of transition metals is 77% to 85% by an atomic ratio. The reproduction layer(52) is made of a material having expanded magnetic domain properties when the mask layer(53) is disconnected from the recording layer(54).
