PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make core coupling easy, speedy, and high in precision. SOLUTION: A core 2 of an optical fiber 1 is led out to project the optical fiber tip, a metal thin film 8 is formed on an optical fiber core flank part, and an end surface 2a of the optical fiber core 2 is made to abut against a waveguide core 5 of a polymer waveguide substrate 4 constituting an optical device, thereby coupling the optical fiber 1 with the optical device. Further, the led-out optical fiber core 2 has its tip tapered to have a taper angle, a waveguide core of the coupling part of the polymer waveguide substrate is etched into a recessed shape, and the optical fiber core may be inserted into the recessed part to abut, and coupled.
