An improved design of hub mounted generator for a bicycle has the conventional core of plates replaced by a reel (14) wound from thin flat strip material and located in a central hole in the stator coil support (13). The ferrous cage is provided by two sets of pointed fingers (120) on end plates (12) enclosing the generator structure. The reel is wound from one strip of material. The generator has reduced drag and a simplified construction.
