The pepper or salt mill has a housing with a middle section (1) having a recess at each end for a connecting plate (2) formed with a central boss having a through bore. The inner face of each recess has grooves. The plates each have corresponding grooves to define ball ways. Two milling elements (3) each have a multiple face drive shaft (32) fitting in the boss bores.
