Class 110(iii) In an axial-flow turbine blade having a root portion 11a which engages in an axially disposed slot in the periphery of a rotor disc, the bottom of the root portion has a, cutaway portion 11b which extends from one of the axially-directed faces 11c partly across the width of the blade root, and cooling ducts 15 extend from the cutaway portion to the interior of the profile portion. The root portion 11a has a tapering radial projection 14 and a profile portion 13 of sheet metal is bonded thereto. The bottom of the root portion which is not cut away is either shaped so as to close the end of channel 12 between the cut-away portion and the bottom of the blade-retaining slot, or is slotted to receive a blanking piece 17 which is retained in position by a locking tab 18. Endwise movement of the blade is prevented by a cross-piece 20 bonded to the root portion, and the locking tab 18. Specification 694,241 is referred to.
