MULTIROLL CALENDER

A multiroll calender (10) comprises at least one roll stack (11) in which there are rolls (12, 13, 14, 15, 16) to form at least one intermediate nip (2, 3, N), and at least one thermo roll (13, 15), as well as a top roll (12) and a bottom roll (16) provided with deflection-compensation devices. In the roll stacks (11) the rolls are movable into nip contact with one another to calender a fibrous web (W) in closed nips. An upper thermo roll (13) constituting a roll pair with the top roll (12) is fixedly supported on a roll frame, so that the closing, opening and loading of a top nip (1) is arranged by loading the shell of the top roll (12) from the inside and the closing, opening and loading of a bottom nip (1) is arranged by loading the shell of the bottom roll (16) from the inside. In order to adjust the load of the nip (2, 3, N) between at least one pair of calender rolls (12, 13; 13, 14; 14, 15; 15, 16) in the roll stack, to open said nip or to lock it in an open position, the pair of calender rolls is provided with a nip load-adjustment and/or locking arrangement (20) which acts between bearing housings (9) or bearing housing carriages and/or loading and/or supporting arms (31, 32) of the calender rolls.
