<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve yield by suppressing breakage of an fired article after being fired and to suppress thermal conductivity and strength from lowering and the the fired article from discoloring. <P>SOLUTION: In this method, the ceramic structure is manufactured by adding metallic silicon and an organic binder to a silicon carbide powder raw material, then mixing, kneading the resulting mixture, forming the obtained body into a prescribed shape, calcining the obtained formed body 1 so as to remove the organic binder contained in the formed body 1, and subjecting the calcined body to final firing. The calcined formed body 1 is placed on a layer of a powder and granular material 4 containing metallic silicon when at least the final firing of the calcining and the final firing is performed. The evaporation amount of the metallic silicon from the powder and granular material 4 having larger surface area than that of the formed body 1 during firing is larger than that from the formed body 1. Accordingly, the evaporation amount of the metallic silicon from the formed body 1 can be suppressed.
