<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus capable of extending the usable range of coating conditions of a non-newtonian coating liquid, thereby stabilizing a coatability without causing any coating failur even in the case of a long-period coating. <P>SOLUTION: The coating apparatus for forming a coating film on a belt like support body supported by a back roll using the non-newtonian coating liquid is composed of: a coating liquid supply member; a coating liquid flow passage forming member; a film thickness regulating member; and a side blade. The coating apparatus has: at least a coating liquid flow passage which is formed from the coating liquid supply member, the coating liquid flow passage forming member, the film thickness regulating member and the belt like support body; and a liquid retaining part which is formed between the coating liquid flow passage forming member and the film thickness regulating member, communicating with the coating liquid flow passage and having a vapor-liquid boundary surface. The coating film is formed by applying the coating liquid flowing-out through the coating liquid flow passage while regulating the thickness of the coating liquid flow passage by the film thickness regulating member. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
