<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL (electroluminescence) display for which arrangement space for a temperature detector detecting the ambient temperature of an organic EL element is reduced and whose life is made longer by reducing deterioration in a high-temperature state. <P>SOLUTION: The organic EL element is equipped with pixel EL elements 24 which are arranged in matrix to constitute pixels 23 respectively, a monitor EL element 25 which is provided to monitor their ambient temperature, a driving circuit 21 which supplies a driving current for displaying an image to the pixel EL elements 24 and monitor element 25, a voltage measuring circuit 26 which measures a driving voltage generated at the monitor EL element 25 with the driving current, and a temperature detecting circuit 27 which detects the ambient temperature of the pixel EL elements 24 according to the driving voltage. Further, provided is a current control circuit 28 which varies the driving current to lower the luminance of an image displayed by a plurality of pixel EL elements 24 when the temperature detected by the temperature detecting circuit 27 becomes high. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
