摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pixel defect detecting/correcting apparatus and a method therefor, in which the number of correctable defective pixels is not limited by the capacity of a recording device and also which can detect/correct pixels which get defective later. SOLUTION: The pixel defect detecting/correcting apparatus is equipped with a color difference/luminance calculation block 1-2 which calculates data on the absolute value of a color difference between an adjacent pixel and a defective pixel as an object of discrimination, a color difference, and luminance, a various data maximum/minimum value detection block 1-3 which detects the maximum and minimum value of the various data out of values calculated from the color differences and luminance, a color difference interpolator calculation block 1-4 which obtains the color difference interpolator and the luminance interpolator of the defective pixel as an object of discrimination, a luminance interpolator calculation block 1-5, a defect discriminating and interpolation processing block 1-6 which determines whether the defective pixel as an object of discrimination is defective or not through each of defect detecting methods and executes interpolation processing corresponding to the defect detecting methods if the pixel is found defective.
