PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material and a method for welding a martensite stainless steel pipe, wherein a weld having no welding defect and high toughness can be obtained. SOLUTION: The welding material has a composition containing (C+N) of 0.02% or less, Si of 1.0% or less, Mn of 0.2 to 3.0%, Cr of 11 to 15%, Ni of more than 7% and not more than 10%, REM of 0.01 to 0.30%, and O of 0.01% or less, or further containing one or two of Cu of 2% or less and Mo of 4% or less and/or one or two of V and Ti of 0.3% or less by mass in total, and the remnant of Fe and inevitable impurities. The material may further contain REM of 0.01 to 0.30%. Using the welding material, ends of martensite stainless steel pipes are butted with each other, and circumferential weld is carried out in GTAW or GMAW using an inert gas as the shield gas.
