The apparatus for fastening a carrier (7) to the rear of a vehicle comprises a mounting track (1) and also has means for selectively mounting vehicle rear lamps (4,5). The mounting track (1) may also comprise electrically conductive tracks. Clamps may be provided for attaching the rear lamps. Independent claims also cover a system comprising the apparatus and a set of rear lamps.
