The locking bar for securing loads in a vehicle comprises two telescopic tubes (5, 6) which are biased against each other by a spring system (7). A pad (17) on one end of the bar is locked against e.g. a roof rail (1) by a spiral spring. This released by a belt (26) attached to a roller (27) operated by a handle (30).
