POWER MANAGEMENT IN A CORDLESS TELEPHONE SYSTEM

When a cordless telephone handset is placed in the cradle of the base station either RF transmission between handset and base station is performed or charging of the handset is performed but not both simultaneously. This reduces the peak power consumption of the cordless telephone and allows the use of a smaller and lower cost AC adaptor. Priority can be given either to RF transmission or battery charging. For example battery charging can be disabled during RF transmission, or RF transmission disabled during battery charging.
