PURPOSE: A device and a method for treating waste ink of an ink jet printer are provided to extend the available period of a cartridge after charging and to reduce wastes by repeatedly supplying waste ink to a cartridge after filtering. CONSTITUTION: A device for treating waste ink of an ink jet printer comprises a suction tool(20) sucking ink from a cartridge(10) to a storage tank(40) and a refill tool(30) sending the ink collected in the storage tank to an ink storage(10a) of the cartridge. If the level of the storage tank approaches a predetermined value, suction of ink from the cartridge is stopped. The ink stored in the storage tank is sent to the ink storage of the cartridge.
