<p>A wedge (7) is connected to a body (16) in the bay floor which can be moved along a guide (6). A wall-side wedge shaft (13) is fixed to the body and the end of a road-side wedge shaft (11) extends through a slot (18) in a side edge of the body and is connected to the drive rod (21) associated with a cylinder (22) mounted in the body. As the cylinder is retracted, the end of the road-side shaft is pulled through the slot in the direction of the wall, causing the wedge to be raised and once the wedge is in its maximum raised position retracting the cylinder further causes the cylinder body (23) to move in the direction of the road-side shaft. The cylinder is connected to a toothed bar (24) and a mechanism is provided which ensures that when the cylinder body moves in the direction of the road-side shaft, the bar is engaged with a counter-bar (28) located above the path of the movable body in the bay floor. The loading bay (3) is located in front of a wall (1) containing a loading/unloading platform (2). The locking device comprises a wedge formed by a shaft on the road side, a middle shaft and a shaft on the wall side, and a pair of plates rotatably mounted between these shafts. In a first position (7a) the shafts and plates form an essentially flat plate and in a second position (7b) they are raised so that they adopt an inverted V or wedge shape, preventing an adjacent lorry wheel from moving.</p> |
