PURPOSE: A liquid crystal projector optical system and a method for expanding life span of the liquid crystal projector optical system are provided to ensure stability and long life span of the liquid crystal projector optical system by using an auxiliary light source lamp and a rotary reflective mirror. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal projector optical system includes two white light source lamps(4a,4b) and a rotary reflective mirror(5) for reflecting light radiated from the white light source lamps(4a,4b). First and second lenses(6,8) are provided to improve brightness of the light. A polarizing light splitter(10) is provided to polarize light passing through the first and second lenses(6,8). Full reflective mirrors(14,20) are provided to change a travelling direction of the light. Liquid crystal panels(24,30,32) adjust transmission of light corresponding to image signals.
