Blends of polyamide and polyurethane fibres are dyed by pretreating with an anionic blocking agent at elevated temperature and then allowing a hydrophilic dye to exhaust into the blend at temperatures below 70‹C in the presence of an organic compound which is a solvent for the dye, is liquid under the conditions of dyeing and is substantially water insoluble and in which the solubility of the dye is greater than in the water, and afterwards heating to a temperature from 70‹C to the boiling point to finish the dyeing; Preferably 0.1-5% of anionic blocking agent is employed, organic compounds specified are benzyl alcohol, n-butyl-alcohol, amyl alcohol, nhexyl-alcohol, cyclohexanol Geramiol, Citronellol, 3-methyl-6-isopropylphenol, isopropyl cresol, amyl lactate, dibutyl phthalate, n-butyl acetate, benzaldehyde toluene and acetophenone
