PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic composition improved in releasability from entanglement of the hair, smoothness, suppleness or easy handleability of the hair. SOLUTION: The cosmetic composition contains at least one amphoteric surfactant selected from an alkylamphohydroxylalkylsulfonate compound and its salt, and at least one hydroxy acid in an amount of at least 1 wt% in a cosmetically acceptable medium.
