PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately correct color shift in a sub-scanning direction from an external device. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a color shift detection sensor which detects an amount of shift of each color of a color image; a motor driver and a motor for adjusting the writing position of a writing means; a color-shift correction value computation circuit which computes correction data for correcting each color shift based upon the amount of color shift detected by the color shift detection sensor; a beam position correction circuit which makes the motor driver adjust the color shift correction based upon the position correction data computed by the color shift correction value computation circuit; and a bus which transmits/receives data to/from the external device PC in order to adjust the writing position.
