PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid occurrence of an error in engine speed detection caused by ignition noise in an engine control device which controls ignition timing using engine speed. SOLUTION: This engine control device is provided with a rotation sensor which outputs a pulse signal for every unit rotational angle of a crankshaft of a spark ignition type engine, and calculates a rotational speed based on the pulse signal detected at a different timing from engine ignition timing. The ignition timing allowing the most delayed angle is normally the time of starting up and near the top dead center. Thus, the effect of the ignition noise can be eliminated from the beginning of starting up and the error occurrence can be avoided by setting up a stage a little later than the compression top dead center as the timing of the pulse signal detection by the rotation sensor.
