The present invention features methods for preparing and using modified asialo-interferons for the treatment of hepatic diseases. Asialo-interferons are modified by the addition of water soluble polymers including, for example, polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), poly (alkylene oxides), such as poly (propylene glycol) (PPG), polytrimethylene glycol (PTG), and poly(oxyethylated polyols), such as poly(oxyethylated sorbitol), poly(oxyethylated glycerol, and poly(oxyethylated glucose). The asialo-interferons that may be modified and used for the treatment of hepatic diseases include, for example, asialo-interferon -alpha, -beta, and -gamma.
