<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the high density of recorded information and a high transfer speed and to improve reliability by controlling a recording signal based on recording characteristics especially by the combination of a recording medium and a recording device regarding an information recording/reproducing device for recording/reproducing a digital signal in/from a recording medium such as an optical disk. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of recording patterns are recorded on a recording medium, the edge position of a reproducing signal from the plurality of recording patterns is measured, the amount of shifting between the edge position and a laser pulse position during writing is measured, a data table regarding the amount of shifting measured for each of the plurality of recording patterns is created, and these operations are carried out for each exchange of a recording medium.
