PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner driver capable of promptly setting a variety of settings onto an image scanner connected over a network. SOLUTION: The scanner driver for controlling the image scanner connected via the network is separated into a scanner selector and a scanner controller. In a graphical user interface of the scanner selector, capability information for each image scanner on the network is inquired in a batch, preserved, and displayed in a list, and an image scanner for use is selected. In the scanner controller, graphical user interface is structured and displayed, by reading out the capability information selected by the scanner selector. With this graphical user interface, a variety of settings for the selected image scanner are set, and a reading instruction and reception of an image data are performed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
