PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device in which file control in a recording medium which is used by a plurality of users and in which many contents are recorded is made simple and easy. SOLUTION: When recording/reproducing of contents are performed in an optical disk D using a recording and reproducing device 1, recording/updating of recording and reproducing history information including viewing/listening of each contents and restriction for viewing/listening or the like are performed about video users, users scheduling viewing/listening, and viewing/listening users for each contents. Also, each file can be controlled easily by enabling that this information is displayed. For example, taking out contents not yet viewed and listened being common to a plurality of users viewing and listening or operations such as erasing contents viewed and listened by all users or the like can be performed quickly and surely.
