PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automobile surroundings recognizing device capable of imaging a large range by providing not a complex constitution having a camera on a mirror housing but a simple constitution using a mirror base, and imaging a place of dead angle of lateral forward direction and lateral backward direction at a position near the height of the eyeshot of a driver. SOLUTION: The recognizing devices are disposed on the car body outside of side doors S1 on the driver's seat side and passenger seat side of an automobile, and the surroundings of the side of the car body can be imaged by turning a CCD camera V disposed in a mirror base 2. The image taken by the CCD camera V is outputted by a monitor Z to a place having a meter X or the like of the driver's seat in the car L, thereby easily recognizing the back part and back side part.
