A removable casing liner (10) in a centrifugal pump for processing heavy dut y slurries containing abrasive particles has a selectively configured volute (60) which is asymmetrical in axial cross section along the circumference of the casing liner (10) from the cut water region to the throat region, the asymmetry being about a plane which radially bisects the casing (10) and volute (60) region. The liner (10) is particularly suitable for use in connection with an impellers (20) equipped with expelling vanes (50) for pumping out slurry from the seal face (62).
