IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR HOLDING IMAGE CARRIER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce transfer disturbance caused by impact and vibration when a contact member abuts on an image carrier.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a rotary photoreceptor drum 11; a development roll 51 which develops an electrostatic latent image formed on the photoreceptor drum 11; and an intermediate transfer belt 15 which abuts on the photoreceptor drum 11 and temporarily holds a toner image formed by being developed by the development roll 51. The development roll 51 includes a tracking roll 52 which abuts on the photoreceptor drum 11 in order to keep a distance between the development roll 51 and the photoreceptor drum 11 constant. The direction a of the load on the photoreceptor drum 11 applied by the tracking roll 52 is located in the range of a wrap, or the abutting range of the intermediate transfer belt 15 against the photoreceptor drum 11.
