<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive controller which can improve the accuracy in the speed control or the tension control of a subject driven by the drive motor. <P>SOLUTION: Based on the main circuit voltage V of the drive motor 8, the main circuit current I detected by a current detector 11, and the number N of revolutions of the drive motor 8, this controller calculates No-load loss PO by means of a no-load operation means 12, and stores it in a no-load loss operation means 12, making it correspond to the number N of revolutions of the drive motor 8. Then, this gets no-load loss PO from a no-load loss table, according to the number of revolutions of the drive motor 8 on that occasion, and calculates load loss PL in a load loss operation means 14, and adds both up in an adder 22, and inputs it into a current controller 6, defining that the mechanical loss PM to be compensated = PO+PL, and controls the drive motor 8 via a thyristor circuit 7.
