<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor and a steering system which are equipped with fail safe functions and are capable of cost reduction and compactification. <P>SOLUTION: In the electric motor device 10, usually the coils 17A and 17B of the first and second systems 18A and 18B operate in cooperation to rotate a rotor 25, and when abnormality occurs in one system, only the coil of the other system rotates the rotor 25. It prevents the electric motor 14 from stopping at the same time when abnormality occurs in either system, thus fail safe can be achieved. Moreover, according to this constitution, as compared with conventional constitution where two actuators are provided, the number of parts items can be reduced, and cost reduction and compactification can be achieved more than before. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
