PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve discharge duration and output characteristics of a primary battery using a manganese dioxide for a positive electrode. SOLUTION: In this electrochemical element or the battery including a negative electrode, a separator, and a positive electrode of a manganese dioxide, the positive electrode contains at least one inorganic crystalline additive selected from a tungsten oxide, a zirconium compound, a titanium oxide having a rutile structure, a yttrium oxide, a cerium oxide, zeolite and aluminosilicate by one to ten thousands (0.0001)%-ten (10)% to a positive electrode mass.
