PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which reduces stresses to a user by a recovery motion by reducing the recover process which has been performing twice within a short time to only once as a recovery requirement could occur again after replacing an ink tank by the occurrence of an ink error due to the using up of the ink as a result of a remaining ink check after the recovery process, and of which the throughput is improved. SOLUTION: Prior to performing the recovery process, an ink remaining amount which is detected in advance, and an ink amount which is consumed by the recover process are compared. When it is detected that the ink is used up after the recovery process, and a recover requirement might occur, the recovery process is suspended, and the recovery is performed after the ink tank is replaced.
