ANTIMICROBIAL AGENT AND ANTI-PERIODONTAL DISEASE AGENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extremely safe natural antimicrobial agent and anti-periodontal disease agent having excellent antimicrobial effects by effectively utilizing rice bran produced as a by-product during rice milling of rice processing and to provide a composition for the oral cavity and a food composition having antimicrobial actions or anti-periodontal disease actions.

SOLUTION: The anti-periodontal disease agent is obtained by heat-treating rice bran or brown rice or rice embryo containing the rice bran or an extract therefrom and including the resultant heat-treated material as an active ingredient. The anti-periodontal disease agent has growth inhibitory actions on the causative microorganisms of periodontal disease and widely applicable as the anti-periodontal disease agent effective for prophylaxis and treatment of the periodontal disease. The composition for the oral cavity and food composition having prophylactic effects on periodontal disease can be provided by formulating the anti-periodontal disease agent in a dentifrice, a mouthwash or a food and drink.
