PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve deterioration such as generation of foreign matters or scratches of a thin film product of a cellulose ester film used as a protecting film for a polarizing plate in a liquid crystal display device (LCD) or the like, and to provide a keeping method of the film which can prevent deterioration such as generation of foreign matters and scratches during keeping in a logistical state such as storage/transportation of the film. SOLUTION: The cellulose ester film has a calcium content of at most 30 ppm in terms of the calcium atom and a magnesium content of at most 30 ppm in terms of the magnesium atom and gives a detection probability of the calcium atom of at most 1,000 ppm and a detection probability of the magnesium atom of at most 1,000 ppm, each in terms of the ratio of the detected number to all the components, when the uppermost surface of the film is subjected to measurement by a time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometer (TOF-SIMS), both before and after a temperature-conditioning and humidity-conditioning treatment of the film under a specified environmental condition.
